Raps filed v. man who strafed house

THE City Prosecutor's Office sued a man for illegal possession of firearms after he used an unlicensed gun to strafe his neighbor's house in Barangay Tawan-tawan, Baguio district, Davao City, two Fridays ago.

Facing charges for violating the Republic Act (RA) 8294 is one Arcedo Gonzaga, of legal age, resident of sitio Maligatong in Barangay Tawan-tawan, who is now detained at the Baguio police precinct.

Police officers Artemio Obsioma and Ramon Segundo Jr., both of the Baguio police filed the complaint.

Associate Prosecutor Miriam April Mastura Mamukid, who recommended the filing of charges, forwarded the case to the Regional Trial Court for trial setting a bail of P60,000 for Gonzaga's temporary liberty.

In their joint affidavit complaint, Obsioma and Segundo said that Gonzaga was frisked at around 10:15 p.m. on November 4 outside the house of one Dodong Cao, resident of Sitio Maligatong.

Obsioma said that they were ordered to respond in the area after their precinct received a call from Cao, informing them that three unidentified men strafed his house.

He said that when they arrived in the area, they noticed a man, later identified as Gonzaga hiding from the dark. The suspect was then nabbed before he could escape.

Gonzaga was discovered to have an unlicensed caliber .38 revolver, according to Obsioma.

Gonzaga was later endorsed to the Baguio police precinct.

The suspect during police investigation claimed that his companions, Jovy Amarila and Erian Sumalipong, both residents of the same place, also possessed unlicensed guns.

Amarila and Sumalipong were able to escape.

Obsioma and Segundo earlier filed the same charges against Amarila and Sumalipong but the charges against them were recommended for dismissal since they were not caught in possession of the alleged unlicensed firearms. (JGR)
