Ecoland netters to hold tourney in Abad Santos By Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan
AN ADVENTUROUS "Tennis in Wilderness" men's doubles Tournament will be held on November 24-27 in Sitio Kibatang, Barangay San Isidro, Jose Abad Santos City.
Rocky Fornillos of the Ecoland Tennis Center bared this Thursday during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn.
"This is a private endeavor of our club not just for the sake of sports but also to extend community services to the natives in the area. We will conduct medical services to the residents and we will also give away used clothes for them" Fornillos said.
He said it would take some seven hours for the entire group to reach the remote place.
"We will have to travel to General Santos then go to Glan, Sarangani where we have to leave our vehicles and board horses then trek for an hour to reach area," Fornillos said.
He said a total cash prize of P150,000 is at stake in the netfest for a cause.
Women players, according to him, won't be joining the event due to the rigors of the trip.
"We hope this activity will open areas of development for Sitio Kibatang. We also hope other groups can also extend their arms to this community," Fornillos concluded.
