Wildcats, Ateneo 5 post wins in Gaisano Cup
THE University of Mindanao (UM) Wildcats and Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) Blue Knights scored contrasting wins in the 3rd Gaisano South Cup basketball tournament at the GS SkyGym Thursday night.
The Wildcats ravaged the Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Crusaders, 81-59, while the Blue Knights beat AMA College, 86-76, in their college division 1 matches.
Edgar Awitin topscored with 28 points for the Wildcats as Gerald Villa added 11 to help lift the team's 7-0 sweep in the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP)-sanctioned cagefest.
The 4-4 Blue Knights, however, relied on Nelson Chester Te, Jeffrey Solidum, Ronn Rico Lecias, Jamewel Cabañog and June Dwight Bantan who scored double markers.
Best player of the game Te took 29 points, five rebounds and five steals while Solidum made 13, Lecias and Cabañog had 12 each and Bantan got 10.
Meanwhile, the All-Star Day gets going Saturday with three-point shootout, slam dunk contest and cheerdance competition as side events. (MLSA)
