5 bandits sued for ma, son murder By Joy G. Romares
THE City Prosecutor's Office has formally recommended the filing of murder charges against five men believed to be bandits for killing a woman and her son in Malabog, Paquibato district, Davao City, June this year.
Sued for two counts of murder are Dante Lumoyod alias Kumander Dante, Datu Isaac Laydan alias Datu Baliti, one Sulay Lumoyod alias Erning, a certain alias Jerwin, and a still unidentified man, all residents of sitio Quary, Malabog in Paquibato district this city.
The victims were identified as Elena Clarin Balansag and her son Rommel Balansag, residents of Purok Malinawon in same place.
Prosecutor I Gaye T. Cañete did not set any bail for the respondents' temporary liberty who are now detained at the Paquibato police precinct.
Elena's son and Rommel's half brother, Jimmy Clarin, resident of Bago Aplaya, Seaside, Talomo district, filed the complaint.
A witness named Arquillano Bustamante, 30, farmer, neighbor of the victims, said in his affidavit that the incident happened at around 7 p.m. of June 16 while he was on his way home from Elena's house where he took his dinner.
Bustamante claimed he heard a commotion from the house prompting him to go back and check, only to see Dante and his companions dragging Elena outside her house.
He said Dante stabbed Elena several times in different parts of her body.
Elena's son Rommel was also stabbed while he was trying to rescue his mother.
Bustamante said he wanted to help the victims but he was helpless because Dante and his companions were armed.
Meanwhile, one Cerilo Unana, neighbor of the victims, said a few days before the incident he heard Rommel complaining against Dante's group, known for their notoriety.
Unana said Dante's group solicited P1,000 and 15 kilos of rice from Rommel but the latter only gave 10 kilos of corn.
The Paquibato police arrested Dante and his companions on July 3.
