Holy Child bags junior 1 crown By Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan
THE Holy Child School of Davao (HCSD) Reds bagged the 3rd Gaisano South Cup junior 1 division title after beating Agro-Industrial Foundation College (AIFC) Sailors, 90-84, at the GS SkyGym Friday night.
Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) Kristopher Lloyd Lacida sparked the Reds with his 19 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and four block shots.
His coach Ildefonso Cunanan took the Coach of the Year award as teammate Lawrence Fortinez was named to the Mythical Five. Guard Fortinez recorded seven points per game (ppg), five assists per game (apg) and 2.4 steals per game (spg).
Regular MVP Clemente Ruiz of Emar Learning Center also made it to the elite five with 24.7 ppg and 14.15 rebounds per game (rpg) along with teammate Carlos Albofera ( 15.7 ppg, 10 rpg, 2 bpg), Ateneo de Davao University forward Carl Tech (19.2 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 2 apg, 3spg) and Agro forward Janno Nuñez (15.7 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1 block shot per game).
Meanwhile, the University of Mindanao (UM) Wildcats was still playing against Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings for the college division 1 title as of press time.
The Wildcats led their best-of-three championship series, 1-0, in the cagefest sanctioned by the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) under regional director Regino "Boy" Cua. (MLSA)
