Mindanao traders back Arroyo's reform agenda
MINDANAO Business Council (MBC) vice chair Romeo Serra said the business community is supporting the reform agenda of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and that the business council would help empower local development councils in the region.
Serra said MBC is committed to collaborate with Mindanao representatives to work for a multi-sectoral coalition in Mindanao and push economic growth.
"To support the President's goal of accelerating infrastructure projects and developments in Mindanao, MBC would support the government' program and facilitate its planning, if necessary," Serra said.
However, he said the Department of Public Works and Highways would also do its part in speeding up the implementation of infrastructure projects and focus on key Mindanao infrastructure program like those long-delayed for completion.
Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industries Inc. president Bienvenido Cariaga, on the other hand, said businessmen would also support the energy program of the government to preempt power shortage seen to hit Mindanao in the years to come.
At present, energy power generation programs are proposed to be put up in Sulu Archipelago, Dinagat island, Siargao, and in Southern Mindanao area.
Cariaga said there is a need to push for a wide-scale marketing program to lure investors into business process outsourcing industry.
