Pantua siblings turn back rivals
By Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan

THE Pantua brothers--Juan Carlo and Ernesto--of General Santos City got off to a flying start in the opener Tuesday of the 1st Sports Depot National Junior Age-Group Tennis Championships at the Davao Capitol Tennis Club courts in Sandawa, Matina.

Second-seeed Juan Carlo plastered Ernest Roldan, 6-0, 6-0, in the boys 16-under event of the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta)-sanctioned meet.

No. 3 Ernesto, on his part, breezed past Davao City bet Jun Anthony Alcoseba, 6-1, 6-0, in the boys 14-under.

Two other Pantuas--Miguel and Luis--are also seeing action in the four-day netfest that stakes medals and trophies to the winners.

Miguel is the fourth-seed in the 18-under while Luis is entered in 10-under unisex and boys 12-under categories.

Boys 14-under No. 2 seed Princeton Gerapusco of Cotabato City pulled off a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kimwell Sumahay to advance to the next round.

In the 10-under, Carlo Nono of Kabacan survived a 7-5, 6-2 triumph against Ateneo de Davao University's Billy Tapucar while Michael Accion downed John Paul Javier, 6-2, 7-5.

Meanwhile, comebacking Dabawenyo veteran Ralph Kevin Barte, boys 18-under No. 1 seed, and girls 18-under top player Patricia Adaza of Ateneo will make his debut in the event today along with 16-under top-seeds El Santo Santos of Rizal Memorial Colleges and Macy Solon of Dumaguete City.
