Davao Oriental villagers go hi-tech
THE first set of computers is scheduled to arrive anytime this month for the implementation of the Barangay Computer Literacy Program.
Davao Oriental Representative Joel Almario initiated the program.
"Indeed, this is an ambitious project but we are off to a good start, and we'll make our way to the finish", Almario said.
The barangay literacy program starts with the delivery of the computers to the respective barangays of District 2 in the province of Davao Oriental.
All 97 barangays of District 2 could avail of computers for the program relentlessly pursued by Almario.
With the program, the barangay secretaries, barangay treasurers, and those designated by the barangay would undergo training from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).
Experts from Tesda would visit the barangays for a three-day training.
After completing their basic computer course, the barangay secretaries, and treasurers would re-echo their learning to the other members of the barangay.
Still under the provision of the program, computers would be used by the barangays from Monday to Thursday, while the basic computer course is set from Friday to Sunday.
Only 10 students are allowed in every session of the basic computer course.
"The next thing to do is to establish the linkage between the barangay and the municipal government, Almario said.
"The beauty of the program is that everybody can avail of it, regardless of educational attainment and regardless of status in society," he said.
With the linkage, barrio folks need not be in town to know the occurrences that transpired. And urban people also need not go to the barangays to be updated.
Undeniably, transactions are done more conveniently and easily with the computer.
Almario explained that he could not say if the program gets fully implemented within his remaining days in Congress.
"But this is one thing my successor in Congress will really have to dwell on and have it done completely for the constituents of District 2," he said.
