Igacos gears up for tourism forum
IGACOS -- The City Government of the Island Garden City of Samal is gearing for the Asean Tourism Forum (ATF) next year as host to a side trip in Davao del Norte.
In an interview, City Administrator Cleto Gales said the City Government is sprucing up city streets and access roads to major resorts in the island in anticipation of the event.
It is also training local tourist-guides knowing that delegates to ATF would be tour the island.
ATF, which will be officially held in Davao City in January next year, is expected to gather some 3,000 top executives of establishments in the tourism industry worldwide.
Local government officials in Davao del Norte are looking at getting one-third of the tourist bulk pie.
Meanwhile, the City Government is making its constituents understand how they could benefit from the event.
"This is once in a lifetime opportunity, so we asking everybody to cooperate," Gales said.
On the other hand, Island Garden City of Samal Mayor Rogelio Antalan wanted the city to be known not only for its physical splendor but also for the goodness in character and ability of its people.
Addressing the 4th Mindanao Quiz Bee, Antalan said its in the character and ability of its people that could push progress onward.
