Cotabato landmine suspect arrested
AUTHORITIES in Kidapawan City arrested Tuesday afternoon a suspect of the landmine explosion in North Cotabato last week.
Arrested was Roberto Moneba alias Oslec and Bosyong of the New People's Army Front committee 74.
He was arrested by the composite team of the Army's 39th Infantry Battalion, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao, and the military intelligence group around 3:25 p.m. at Duhat Street, Kidapawan City.
A .45 caliber pistol was recovered from the suspect.
The arrest was based on a warrant issued by the court for his alleged participation in the Tulunan landmine incident last December 16 that killed three Army soldiers, including two junior officers, and wounded 20 others.
The troops from the 39th Infantry Battalion were headed to a remote village for a medical mission when the landmine went off outside Tulunan town at around 9:40 a.m. of December 16.
The blast was so powerful that it hurled the army truck about three meters. The junior officers and the driver seated in front were killed.
It was unclear whether the mine was detonated manually or had a self-triggering mechanism.
The rebels have insisted that their landmines are "command detonated" and not set up like a booby trap, in order to avoid civilian or nonmilitary casualties. (BOT/With reports from Peng Aliño)
