Army troops seize 'hot logs' in Mawab By Ben O. Tesiorna
ARMY soldiers seized several board feet of lawaan lumber in Mawab, Compostela Valley on Tuesday during a hot pursuit operation against the rebels who killed four soldiers in Tagum City earlier that day.
Army soldiers led by 1st Lieutenant Julius Villena intercepted a truckload of lawaan lumbers estimated at 2,700 board feet along the Mawab-Tagum highway.
Colonel Antonio Amodia, chief of the 404th Brigade, said his men waylaid a white Fuso Turbofighter truck with plate number GMN 825 load with lawaan lumber.
When driver Noel Palao failed to present pertinent documents to prove the legality of the cargo they readily confiscated the lumber.
Arrested along with Palao were helpers Alex, Andy, Alvin, all surnamed Sabate, and Clifford Alcasid. One Jesus Cabilan was also arrested for connivance.
Cabilan was said to be the "spotter" of the suspects. Recovered from Cabilan was a caliber .45 pistol with seven live bullets and his motorcycle.
The hot logs are now under the custody of the Army's 404th Brigade while the arrested suspects were turned over to the Mawab Police for the filing of appropriate charges.
