A TALL and talented netter from Dumaguete City and a promising kid from General Santos City gained headway Thursday in the 1st Sports Depo National Junior Age-Group Tennis Championships at the Davao Capitol Tennis Club courts.
Macy Solon, a 15-year-old power-hitting lass from Siliman University, mad short work of Yonee Lei Mainar, 6-1, 6-2, in the girls 16-under semifinals to move closer towards another title.
Solon, who won the 16-under plum of the Prince Nassau age-group event last September also at the Capitol, guns for the crown against Eloisa Collo today.
Collo earned the right to meet Solon by ousting Ma. Junelsa Galinato in the other semis encounter.
Pantua, 15-year-old student of the Tupi National High School, advanced with a win over Gerard Pinili in the boys' 16-under and was expected to meet Andre Dizon next.
Also winning Thursday was Kirk Gerapusco in the 10-under unisex category.
Semifinal matches in the boys and girls' 18-under, 16-under, 14-under and 12-under categories were being played as off press time.
Ralph Kevin Barte, the top seed in the 18-under, was set to see action, along with Mark Alcoseba, Pantua and El Santo Santos.
All the finals will be played today, according to tournament organizer Titong Cansino.
