Yuletide season fails to slow tourism forum preparations

EVEN with the Holiday Season, the local host council and other focal persons of the Asean Tourism Forum (ATF) go non-stop in preparing for the international event that will be held in Davao City from January 13 to 19, 2006.

Patmei Ruivivar, chief of staff of the Office of the City Mayor on December 22, called a media briefing to give the press regular updates related to tourism forum.

She said a lot has to be reported about Davao City being host of the international gathering.

The event, she said, will not only gather key tourism players but also media personalities coming from the Asean region.

Ruivivar said this is an opportunity that Davao will be highlighted and that reports of Davao-based media with regards to the city will serve as a guide for the members of the international press.

"We expect that the uniqueness of the city as well as its rich resource will land in the pages of international publication," Ruivivar said.

Meanwhile, hotels in the city are rushing up for the main event in January 2006.

At the Waterfront Insular Hotel, renovation work continues 24 hours as workers go on shifting just to put out the desired appearance for the ATF.

Private meetings between international businessmen will take place at the Waterfront.

The Tourism Ministers' meeting will be held at the Pearl Farm Beach Resort at the Island Garden City of Samal.

Accommodation committee chaired by Tina Dotimas together with vice-chair Art Boncato of the Local Host Council came up with a roadshow among hotel representatives.

The presentation was an in-depth discussion primarily aimed at creating awareness for the officers and department heads of the establishments with regards ATF.

It was explained during the roadshow the importance of upgrading the facilities and services making Davao City a worthy host of the forum.
