Ako Legal Wife leads Davao box-office By Nelson C. Bagaforo
AKO Legal Wife (Mano Po 4?), which explores the complexities and the comedy of a Chinese Filipino's life as he keeps a string of wives, is leading the box-office race in Davao City, two days after the Metro Manila Film Festival opened on Christmas Day.
All entries to the annual film festival are simultaneously shown in Metro Manila and the cities of Davao, Dagupan, Baguio, Iloilo and Cebu.
Although no official box-office figure was released as of Monday afternoon, sources at the city's big shopping malls say Ako Legal Wife is leading among the pack of seven entries, which opened in the city Sunday, based on the number of tickets sold.
Ako Legal Wife, produced by MAQ Films and directed by Joel Lamangan, is about three women, portrayed by Zsa Zsa Padilla, Cherry Pie Picache and Rufa Mae Quinto, who all claim to be the wife of wealthy Tsinoy Elton Chong, played by Jay Manalo.
Following Ako Legal Wife is special effects driven Exodus: Tales of the Enchanted Kingdom top-billed by Ramon "Bong" Revilla and produced by Imus Production.
It's touted to be the most expensive among the filmfest entries in terms of production cost.
Exodus is about how superhero Exodus saves a village that has survived a global holocaust but is now threatened by monsters from the underworld. The story also has supernatural beings friendly to humans.
Bong's chief nemesis is the monster Bagolbul played by "Prince of R&B" Jay-R.
Other filmfest entries being shown in the city are: Mulawin: The Movie, Enteng Kabisote 2 (The Legend Continues), Shake Rattle and Roll, Kutob and Terrorist Hunter.
