Man out on bail, killed on Christmas By Grace O. Tampuz and Nilo Cobrado
A 28-year-old man, recently released from jail, was gunned down on Christmas Day in Digos City.
Peter James Aznar, alias Jemboy, was waiting for a ride at the corner of Bonifacio and Magsaysay Streets at around 8 p.m. when two unidentified gunmen onboard a motorcycle shot him several times.
Aznar, a resident of Mabini Extension in Digos City, suffered gunshot wounds in his head, face, and chest.
The attending physicians at Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital declared Aznar dead.
Senior Police Officer 1 Celso Hernan of Digos Police Station said they recovered the victim's wallet containing P700, another P1,800 inside his pocket, empty shells from a .45 caliber handgun, a necklace, and a lighter from the crime scene.
Aznar has been detained after being charged with frustrated homicide but was released on bail.
Police theorized that Aznar was also into illegal drugs as they found shabu paraphernalia in his possession.
Three days before he was gunned down, Aznar's girlfriend, Rochelle Tiffany Serapio, 23, of Davao City, was arrested in Digos City for gun possession.
According to reports, Aznar and Serapio were seen carrying a .357 gun, but when confronted by the police, Aznar was able to escape leaving behind his girlfriend.
