Nibbb Fountaine de Beaut: Inspired by success stories
WHETHER you walk in a supermarket or in a 24-hour convenience store, you sure can find boxes of whitening soaps.
With television and magazine ads on beauty soaps, people have increasingly become more conscious of their skin thus, the popularity of whitening soaps.
In fact, a young entrepreneur like Ferdinand Z. Ribo has recently engaged himself in the whitening soap business, which he named "Nibbb Fountaine de Beaut‚"
The 27-year-old Ribo privately owns this newly established and home-based whitening soap business.
"Whitening soaps are very easy to market because Filipinos always want to be beautiful," said the BS in Chemistry graduate of UP Diliman who is fondly called "Bong-Bong" by his family and close friends.
Having worked in several companies in Manila and having broadened his experiences in Japan where he worked in a pharmaceutical laboratory, he is now in Davao enjoying his new business.
"I have always been inspired by the success stories of young entrepreneurs," he said.
Now that he has chosen to be a young entrepreneur himself, he is doing his best.
With the knowledge on combining chemicals and their safety processes, he still keeps himself updated.
"I research and read a lot of books on soap making business -- chemical handling and safety issues," he added.
Most of the materials like the chamomile, mulberry, grape juice extract, papaya extract essential oils are from abroad and others are from the suppliers of extracts here in Davao.
As of now, there are three variants of the soap -- Green Tea, African Papain and Mulberry. Notably, all of which are 100% natural, organic and handmade.
Ribo formulated the soap himself. Using the "cold-process," he makes the soap in his home in Marfori Subdivision.
Though it's kind of hard because it has only been a month since he started, what keeps him going is the encouragement of his family especially his mother.
He has no employees to help him around. Thanks to his mother who helps him market the whitening soap and kudos to his sisters who designed the packaging and meticulously wrap it around the soap.
He particularly likes "Nibbb" as the name of the soap because it stands for the initials of his mother and siblings and his nickname as well -- Norma, Iris, Bonita, Bobby, and Bong-Bong.
As of now, "Nibbb Fountaine de Beaut‚" is distributed in the areas of Davao Oriental, Iligan, Marawi, Ormoc and Lanao del Sur.
He has high hopes of developing his business and acquiring new raw materials and automated equipment.
He also plans to expand his products like whitening cream, lotion, and detergent.
He is not scared of step-downs. If the determination and passion is there and if you approach business the proper way, he said, one could never go wrong." It also helps that his family supports him.
"The business has become a family bonding thing. At the end of the day, we all look forward to look at the packaging designs and improve them," his mother added.
Although the business is still young, it has definitely earned positive response from the people who have tried the soaps. Orders from close friends and other establishments come pouring in.
Ribo said, "By the end of January 2006, we hope to co-locate our products in kiosks in the different malls here in Davao."
