Archbishop calls for real peace in 2006 By Barbara Carla R. Quiero
DAVAO City Archbishop Fernando Capalla called on Dabawenyos Saturday to work for genuine peace in 2006.
"With that greeting of a peaceful New Year, I would also like to remind everyone that real peace comes from order, which we call in Bisaya "kahusay" and that means orderliness in our relationship with God and one another," Capalla said in an interview.
He added that said order and harmony are parts of a person's Christian obligation. According to him, to put order in the relationship of man and God and with one another, the demands of justice and mercy are also to be addressed.
First, there is what we call the justice of God, meaning we have obligations to our God and the obligations to our God is to obey his orders, which we call the ten commandments," he said.
Capalla said he has noticed that all the problems, ills and mysteries that the people experience nowadays are the results of the violation of God's 10 commandments.
He added that among the 10 commandments, there are three in relation to God and 7 in relation to humans.
"In fact, I was very happy that our clergy followed my advice that all the Misa de Gallo homilies should be on the 10 commandments and that we should have the blessed mother, Mama Mary as a model of one who knows the commandments of God and other things on her own way, that is why she is called as a woman highly favored by God because of her obedience," he said.
Capalla said real peace that should come from order and harmony, will be based on the people's knowledge, understanding and obedience of the 10 commandments of God.
"With that it would also be very easy to follow also the commandments of the law or the law of the country. People now, believed that as long as your are not caught, okay lang, but there is somebody else who knows us and sees us in secrete," Capalla stressed.
Meanwhile, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte hopes that foreign governments and even our own National Government respect that and get out of the way of our path to development.
"The year 2005 has been a challenging one for Filipinos. The political crisis has peaked in such a way that the inherent weakness of our system and power relations has been exposed like never before," Duterte said.
"The struggle for self determination and genuine local autonomy among Mindanaoans has in turn reached new heights. I have always believed that if Mindanao is left on its own, we could do more and much better in realizing our full potentials without waiting for the National Government to get its act together," he added.
