PBA reaches out to inmates
FOR 31 years now the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) continues touch the lives of many Filipino fans. And yes, even the so-called "outcast of society".
In a unique Christmas outreach program, the PBA held mini-basketball activity at the New Bilibid Prisons.
The league's rising stars such Danny Ildefonso, Dondon Hontiveros and Danny Seigle of San Miguel, Enrico Villanueva, Junthy Valenzuela and Topex Robinson of Red Bull, Ali Peek of Coca-Cola, Kerby Raymundo and Mark Pinris of Purefoods, Asi Taulava and Willie Miller of Talk n Text, Ranidel de Ocampo and Nino Canaleta of Air21 composed the Team PBA that saw action in the 2-ball and 3-point shootout against inmates of the maximum security compound, who showed their appreciation by giving the players a simple token--handicrafts they personally made.
PBA commissioner Noli Eala and his staff later pose for posterity with the inmates and their officers at the end of the affair.
The activity was made possible through the request of former sports commentator Dennis Cerdena, who is now serving his term at NBP and with the support of the Lamb of God Foundation.
