Only 2 Davao groups join ATF's exhibit
OF THE 458 available booths for the Asean Tourism Forum's travel exchange (Travex) slated at the NCCC Mall, only two booths will be occupied by Davao-based companies.
The two Davao exhibitors are Waterfront Insular Hotel and the Marco Polo Hotel.
Thailand has the biggest number of exhibitors with 133. Malaysia is second with 100 exhibitors, Indonesia with 67, Singapore with 64 exhibitors then Philippines with 38 exhibitors including the two hotels from Davao.
Vietnam has 25 exhibitors, Myannmar with 15, Cambodia with 9, 7 from Brunei, and 2 exhibitors from Laos.
Unconfirmed reports showed that the reason behind the low turn out of participants from Davao City considering that Davao is the host city is to the expensive registration fee, which is about $5,000 or roughly P250,000.
Travex organizer, TTG Asia Media, maximized every possible space at the NCCC Exhibition Center due to the tremendous demand from Asean travel establishments.
Travex 2006 will have 458 exhibitors from 10 countries and 470 buyers and media from six continents.
Of the estimated 372 buyers, 137 are from Asean, 127 from Europe, 52 from Australia and Asia, 39 from the Americas, 13 from the Middle East, and 4 from Africa.
The ATF is an annual gathering of government and private stakeholders in travel and tourism in the Asean with the main objective of promoting Asean as one destination. The event is hosted by an Asean member country by rotation.
The last time the Philippines hosted the ATF was in 1997, with Cebu as host city. (BOT)
