New traffic scheme not only for tourism forum
TRAFFIC Management Center (TMC) chief Celso Gempesaw Thursday clarified that the new traffic system prohibiting parking, loading, and unloading along Quirino Avenue is not mainly for the Asean Tourism Forum (ATF) slated next week.
Starting January 4, TMC imposed prohibition of parking, loading, and unloading from the corner of San Pedro Street to Generoso Bridge along Quirino Avenue.
"This is not for ATF lang, it just so happened nga paabutay na ang ATF," Gempesaw said during the weekly I-speak forum.
He said TMC has been planning to implement the scheme on August last year but was uncertain because of the coming Kadayawan.
The traffic chief added that TMC could also not implement it on the following months because of the preparation for the Oplan Kaluluwa, followed by the holiday season.
"We have traffic enforcers within the area to make sure that the new traffic plan is complied," Gempesaw said.
A total of 12 traffic enforcers were assigned in the area to look into the traffic flow and also assist commuters who are not yet familiar with the new scheme.
He said through the execution of the new traffic scheme, the city would not only experience lesser traffic congestion in the area but also be able to implement a traffic law that prohibits parking, loading, and unloading, 50 meters before and after a bridge. (BRQ)
