Davao Chinatown night market opens
A STREET Night market is now open along the Chinatown stretch of Lizada, Monteverde streets towards Santa Ana up to Uyanguren Avenue. It is open on the following dates: January 13, 14, 21, 21, 21, and 28.
The Dabaw Kaisa Foundation Inc., a group of active Filipino -Chinese in the city, organized the street night market in the city in open coordination with the Chinatown Development Council and the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The night market will be a two-day per week activity done every Fridays and Saturdays and is designed to enliven the tourism industry of the city specifically promoting the Chinatown area.
Traders retailing various goods including Chinese delicacies and specialties, fashion items, home crafts will be on displayed in the market, which will be opened from 5:00 p.m. until 12 midnight.
The holding of the street night market will coincide with the holding of the Asean Tourism Forum (ATF) and the Chinese Lunar New Year.
Last Tuesday, the City Council of Davao granted legislative authority for the use of the streets during the night market activity.
The night market is patterned after the booming street night markets of Hongkong and Bangkok that had contributed greatly to the local economy and tourism industry.
