Indonesian national held for questioning
THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents held an Indonesian national for questioning, but local BI authorities refused to confirm that he is a suspected terrorist.
In a telephone interview Thursday, BI alien control officer Benjamin Lao confirmed that they have invited an Indonesian national whom he did not identify.
Lao did not say though why the foreigner was invited to the BI office for questioning. Nor did he confirm that the Indonesian is a suspected terrorist.
"With the ATF, we are doing all our best. Ayaw naman naming maalarma ang mga delegates na dadating dito," Lao said.
Unconfirmed reports claimed that BI personnel at the Davao International Airport arrested the foreigner on January 10.
The foreigner was identified as a certain Sunardi. He was onboard Merpati Airlines when he arrived in the city.
GMA Testigo's footage last Wednesday showed a man smoking just outside the BI's office along Bajada this city. The man was said to be the arrested Indonesian national. (BOT)
