By Joy G. Romares

A 20-year-old man died after he was shot several times by unidentified gunmen, believed to be vigilantes, while taking his snacks inside the public market in Tagum City, Wednesday evening.

Police identified the victim as Rey Lumiguid, a laborer, and resident of Purok 9, Sitio Santol, Malinawon, Barangay La Filipina in Tagum City.

Initial investigation conducted by the Tagum City police office showed that the incident happened at around 8 p.m. while the victim was sitting on a bench, eating crackers.

Witnesses said that two unidentified men approached Lumiguid and, without provocation, shot him several times.

Witnesses said the gunmen hurriedly ran towards a waiting motorcycle nearby, driven by another man and sped off to unknown direction.

Meanwhile, police said they still have to check whether the victim has criminal records. They recovered three empty shells believed to be of a caliber .45 pistol at the scene of crime.

The victim, who succumbed to four gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body, was declared dead on the spot.

On the other hand, Ernesto, the victim's brother, said that his brother could have been mistaken by the gunmen for somebody else.

Police are conducting follow-up investigation to identify the killers and determine the motive of the incident.
