Militants junk mayor's appeal, to hold rallies during forum
MILITANT Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) acting secretary general Ariel Casilao yesterday said they will not stop holding protest rallies just because of the Asean Tourism Forum (ATF).
This was Casilao's answer to the request of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte for a moratorium in protest activities during the ATF.
"Dili gyud pwede dili magprotesta, because these are legitimate issues," Casilao said in a press conference at Madayaw Ihaw-ihaw Davao.
Casilao said four days ago they already informed City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte they can not guarantee a no-protest activity during the holding of the ATF that will gather around 2,500 foreign and local delegates.
"But, we guarantee a peaceful protest. These are scheduled protest action activities coincidentally held on the duration of ATF," he said.
Casilao said if they will be ordered by the City Government to secure a protest permit, they will not hesitate to get one.
He said previous protest activities were all orderly and peaceful.
"Unless, there are infiltrators," Casilao added. Casilao bared several protest activities starting today, as follows: Jan. 13--Opening Salvo by youth sector lead by the Anak Bayan at the Jones Circle; January 19--fashion show by Gabriela, which will display show the different faces of women exploitation under the globalization system; January 20--commemoration of Edsa 2 organized by
Bayan, Kilusang Mayo Uno, Anak Bayan, Gabriela and other Bayan forces; and January 21--commemoration of the 19th anniversary of the Mendiola massacre spearheaded by Farmers Association of Davao City, Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, Anak Pawis and other farmers group. (BRQ)
