2 airport police sued for theft By Joy G. Romares
TWO airport policemen stand accused of stealing some personal belongings of an army officer at the inspection area of the Davao International Airport, last month.
Prosecutor I Arlene L. Palabrica recommended the filing of theft charges against SPO1 Alfonso Domingo and SPO1 Rolando Salmorin, both members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) assigned at the airport.
Lieutenant Arnel Sabas, who hails from Bulacan but is assigned at the 67th Infantry Battalion based in Baganga in Davao Oriental, filed the complaint.
In his complaint, Sabas said, he was at the airport on December 16 at around 4 p.m. for a Philippine Airlines flight to Manila as he was going to spend Christmas in Bulacan.
Sabas said that before he passed through the x-ray machine, he placed his caliber .45 pistol and his cellphone holder containing P400 cash, his officer's tag, two gold rings, and a ball ring at the inspection area.
He said while passing the x-ray machine, he turned around to get his belongings only to find the cellphone holder missing.
Sabas said he was suspicious of Domingo and Salmorin because they were the only ones who were around and inspected his things.
The complainant just reported the incident to the airport police office since he still had his flight to catch. He filed the case just recently.
Meanwhile, Palabrica gave the respondents 10 days to refute the charges against them.
