Engineer's office warns ad agencies to follow signage law

THE City Engineers Office is giving advertising agencies until January 31 to remove streamers, posters, and signage that violate the Signage Ordinance of Davao City.

City Engineer Leoncio Evasco said he met with the representatives of the different advertising agencies last month to tell them to remove materials found violating the ordinance, especially those not covered by a permit.

"Ang streamers attached to any area na walay permit will be dismantled," Evasco said.

The ordinance states, "No sign or signboard shall be constructed as to unduly obstruct the natural view of the scenic landscape, which is likely to include the view of Mt. Apo and Davao Gulf."

It further states "it shall be unlawful for any person, juridical or natural, to hang temporary signs, posters, or install billboards, business signs, electrical signs, electrical signs, signboards and wall signs or display several similar advertising and propaganda materials unless an application for a sign permit is filed with the Office of the Local Building Official and approved by the City Mayor or his duly designated representative."

"We will ask some group to dismantle it," Evasco said.

"Don't ask our office who dismantled it. As they are now claiming they do not know who placed those materials, then we also do not know who removed them," he added.

Evasco said a total of 10 persons were assigned to monitor and dismantle signage and advertisement signs that have violated the ordinance.

"Unfortunately, this (ordinance) is not applied in the past. So karon, we have to put things in order," he stressed.

The move is part of the city's preparation on the hosting of the ATF with the aim of making the city clean and orderly by imposing discipline and regulation in the putting up of signs and sign structures. (BRQ)
