Pay hike for city workers not soon: vice mayor

THE salary increases for all city hall employees this year might take a while, said Davao City Vice Mayor Luis Bonguyan during Monday's Kapehan sa Dabaw at the SM City.

Bonguyan said though the city has the money to increase the salary of the more than 6,000 plantilla and casual employees, they could not readily do such since there are protocols to be followed.

He said they have to first ask permission from the Department of Budget and the Interior and Local Government before they could implement the salary increase.

Bonguyan said this is because of the salary standardization law that places a ceiling on the salaries of government employees.

He, however, assured employees that even if it might take sometime before they could implement the increase, it would be implemented the soonest possible time.

Bonguyan said they are also looking into the possibility of making the salary increase retroactive from January this year.

The City Government is planning a 10 percent across the board salary increase for all of their employees.

The budget for the increase will be sourced from the revenues to be collected after the implementation of the 2005 tax revenue code of the city. (BOT)
