Thieves defy mayor's warning, steal 2 bins By Barbara Carla R. Quiero
DAYS before the garbage bins that the city bought arrived, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte already warned people against stealing or destroying them.
"Steal the bins and be sent to the Carmen dumpsite together with the garbage," the mayor said.
But the warning apparently has not reached some because two garbage bins have gone missing at Barangay 4-A.
City Administrator Wendel Avisado confirmed that the two garbage bins was reported missing at around 5 a.m. Monday.
The city now waits what could follow once the thieves are identified.
"People have already been warned not to steal these bins because these are for our garbage. Just wait once the mayor catches them," Avisado said.
He said those who stole the garbage bins would be charged with theft of government property.
"I also remind barangay officials to do their share. Patrol at night to monitor what's happening in their barangays and help the mayor," Avisado stressed.
"Otherwise, they will suffer because the mayor would no longer put garbage bins in their area. Once the bins are stolen then we will not replace these with new ones," said Avisado.
Duterte has been known for his punitive ways, not hesitating to teach "lessons" to those who break the law. (BRQ)
