Less privileged should be among city's employable

WITH very little job opportunities for the less privileged, City Hall has to place them in the priority list for employment, Davao City Human Resource and Management Officer Marcelino P. Escalada said.

Escalda said he would be discussing his proposal with the City Social Service and Development Office (CSSDO) and General Services Office (GSO).

According to him, those who belong to such sector like the women, children, and the differently-abled will be organized into groups to form a cooperative depending on their skills.

"So that we can help the less privileged," he stressed.

Escalada said the CSSDO would be assigned to identify and organize groups while the GSO would be tasked to identify their skills and competencies.

"For us to be able to identify who know how to sew so we can have a contract with them to sew the uniforms of government employees; those who know how to cook can be tapped to cater to meetings; and those who can make brooms and dustpans can supply such for the Cenro or the street children who earn their keep washing cars," he said.

Escalada added that the city cooperative would help the sector fund their business.

"Para wala na street selling and streets pushing, they will have their own stores," he said.

Escalada admitted he still has to push his idea and hope this would be approved.

"We still do not know how much this will cost. It will depend on the budget of our office and how much a certain group can loan as a cooperative," he said.

If approved by the City Hall, the plan will be implemented between February and March, Escalada disclosed. (BRQ)
