Murdered sultan's bro taken to Army hospital for security

THE brother of the murdered sultan of Maguindanao was transferred to a military hospital due to security threats.

Datu Andy Baraguir, brother of the late Sultan Sayyid Hajji Datu Amir bin Muhammad Baraguir, was transferred to the Army's 6th Infantry Division hospital in Awang, Maguindanao.

Major General Agustin Demaala, 6th ID commander, said the transfer of Datu Andy was due to the continuing threat on his life from people responsible for the death of his sultan brother.

Demaala, however, could not identify the suspects but said the threat on Datu Andy's life is very much present.

Demaala said they are looking into the angle of "traditional conflict" as the reason behind the ambush on Sultan Baraguir.

"Maaaring ayaw nila (suspects) maging sultan si Baraguir," Demaala said.

On the challenge of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) spokesman Eid Kabalu for the military to identify the suspects, Demaala said they could not do such at the moment since they still do not have one.

Kabalu earlier dared the military to name their suspect after unconfirmed reports put the blame on the MILF.

"Dapat pangalanan agad nila para may lead na. If they are playing safe it should not be at the expense of the MILF," Kabalu said.

"Bakit sila nagrereact? Sila ba yun," Demaala replied.

Kabalu said they are also conducting their own investigation on the incident.

He added that they have identified some suspects but refused to give names.

Baraguir was killed January 11 when two motorcycle-riding gunmen fired at the van they were riding in. (BOT)
