Councilor urges agencies to monitor expired goods
IN ORDER to prevent the proliferation of expired packed and canned goods in Davao City, Councilor Conrado Baluran appeals to government agencies to monitor the selling of such goods to the consuming public.
In a council resolution, Baluran requests the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD), City Health Office, and other government agencies to implement a strict and careful monitoring to all dealers, retailers, merchants, wholesalers and sellers who sell expired or unsealed with expiry date goods to the consuming public.
"Gusto nato ni ipa-implement para protektahan nato atong consuming public," Baluran said in an interview.
Section 9, Article 16 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution states "the State shall protect consumers from trade malpractice and from substandard or hazardous products."
Baluran said he received reports that expired goods are being sold at the Bangkerohan and Agdao Public Market.
"Daghan ang mangasakit kung pasagdan lang nato na mahitbo," he said.
Baluran said he himself became a victim of expired goods when he was able to eat a stale egg which his wife bought from one of the supermarkets in the city.
He then urged entrepreneurs to be concerned of the consumers' safety by not selling and distributing expired or unsealed with expiry date foodstuff.
He also discouraged the consuming public not to patronize these products that are being sold at very cheap prices. (BRQ)
