Vietnam's ATF materials fail to arrive on time
THE head of the Vietnam delegation blamed Thursday the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Davao City for allegedly holding their promotional materials for the Asean Tourism Forum (ATF), thus not enabling the Vietnamese delegation to set up their booth at the forum's Travel Exchange.
It turned out, the problem was with the courier and not the BOC.
Pham Huu Minh, director of the tourism promotion department of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said he is very disappointed by the non-release of the materials needed for ATF's Travel Exchange (Travex) at the NCCC Mall.
Minh said the customs first demanded payment of P12,000 that later increased to P18,000. He added they later decided to give up payment for the cargo's release since they would not need the materials anymore because Travex will end Friday.
Customs district collector Juan Tan, however, denied they withheld any propaganda materials of the Vietnam delegation. He said he personally called up his personnel at the Davao International Airport who denied holding Vietnam's materials.
"Walang na-hold. 'Di totoo yan (Nothing was held. Their accusations are not true)," Tan said. ATF Local Host Council officials said the problem is with Vietnam's courier and not with the BOC.
Patmei Ruivivar, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's chief of staff, said the problem was already attended to by the Philippine Conventions and Visitors Corporation since
Saturday.
"But the problem has something to do with the courier tapped by Vietnam which is based in Manila. The Bureau of Customs did not do anything wrong," Ruivivar said. (BOT)
