A HIGH-ranking military official in Davao Region assured the people that soldiers under his command remain loyal to the Constitution.
Colonel Luini Mirar, chief of the Army's 401st Brigade, said his men remain loyal to the government adding that he has not monitored any recruitment by supporters of the Oakwood mutineers in his area.
Mirar said his men are satisfied with what the government is giving them.
He added that they are focused on their mandate to secure and protect the Filipinos from terrorism more than anything else.
Mirar said that at the moment they are occupied with the Asean Tourism Forum where they are tasked to secure delegates at the Pearl Farm Resort.
"Di na namin pinapansin yang mga balitang posibleng kaguluhan dahil sa pagtakas ng apat na involved sa Oakwood mutiny," Mirar said.
Major General Jovito Palparan Jr., 7th ID commanding general, also assured the Arroyo administration they would not give protective custody to the fugitive junior officers, who might run to Central Luzon.
A clandestine group in the military, the Young Officers Union New Generation (Young), claimed it helped facilitate the escape of Captain Nathaniel Rabonza and 1st Lieutenants Lawrence San Juan, Sonny Sarmiento, and Patricio Bumidang from Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City on Tuesday night.
Young said seven junior officers -- two from the Air Force, two from the Navy and three from the Army -- helped the four escape from their cells at 8:42 p.m. and flee in four vehicles.
Major General Bartolome Bacarro appealed to the public to help authorities by providing information that would lead to the arrest of the escapees. (BOT/With Peng Aliño)
