It was learned that the heavy downpour started Wednesday afternoon until early morning Thursday.

The house of one Gregorio Ordista was first destroyed by floodwaters around 4:30 a.m. Thursday. Few minutes later another house rented by one Edgardo Rocardo was also washed away by water.

The victims were not able to save their belongings though no one was reported hurt in the incident.

Several houses made up of light materials are reportedly located near the Bunawan riverbank.

Residents fear that more houses would be swept away if the heavy downpour continues. Luckily the rain stopped Thursday morning and the residents returned to their houses.

It was learned that the area is prone to flooding. Residents criticized authorities for not sending rescue teams to the area when most needed.

Employees of the City Social Services and Development Office inspected the area Thursday morning and distributed relief goods to affected residents.

In a text message Thursday, Office of Civil Defense 11 director Carmelito Lupo said aside from the flashfloods, they have not monitored any other incident in the region due to heavy rains.
