Guv rewards honest driver
A VAN driver from Kidapawan City was awarded with P50,000 and a house and lot after he returned an envelope containing P500,000 in cash left by an overseas Filipino worker inside his vehicle.
Roberto Mamburao, 56, was awarded the cash by North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Piñol, along with a promise to help facilitate the awarding of a house and lot to the honest driver.
In his annual State of the Province Address Tuesday, Piñol took pride on Mamburao's exemplary honesty despite his being a poor man.
An OFW boarded Mamburao's van at SM Davao terminal last January 16.
Unknown to the passenger, he left his envelope containing checks and cash amounting to P500,000.
When he discovered the envelope, Mamburao did not think twice in returning the same to the management of the terminal who later turned over the envelope to the real owner.
The OFW reportedly gave Mamburao 10,000 yen or roughly about P6,000.
Piñol said Mamburao's honesty should not go unnoticed.
For this reason, he rewarded the driver with something worth more than what the envelope contained.
The governor said the P50,000 cash would be for Mamburao's wife as capital for a small business. The promised house and lot would follow.
The Provincial Government would also give jobs to Mamburao's six children. (BOT)
