Cost-cutting efforts tackled with manufacturing industry
THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in its effort to ensure the smooth implementation of the expanded Value-Added Tax (VAT) Law, recently discussed with a food and beverage conglomerate a marketing strategy that would surely benefit the consuming public.
The initiative, tagged as "Basket of Goods", consists of generically packaged yet safe and high-quality goods that would be more affordable for daily wage earners.
Trade Secretary Peter B. Favila said this initiative aims to link low-income groups, through different cooperatives and associations, with the major manufacturers and suppliers of various basic and prime commodities.
Through this, the said sector of society would be provided with more affordable basic and prime commodities like sardines, instant noodles, and canned meat at comparatively lower prices.
Individual consumers might eventually avail of these goods at regular retail outlets, Favila added.
Moreover, the department is currently developing a text or short messaging service (SMS) project called "Text DTI Presyo" whereby consumers in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao would be informed of prevailing prices through their mobile phones.
"Special monitoring teams, market and supermarket vendors' associations, and consumer groups are closely working together with DTI to monitor prices," Favila said.
Presently, if the public want to air their sentiments or complaints to the agency, they could simply make use of the "Txt DTI" project. They cold just key in DTI and send to 2920 for both Globe and Smart subscribers.
Favila enjoined everyone to immediately report to them any violation of the Price Act, Fair Trade Laws, Price Tag Law, and product standardization.
At the regional level, anyone could contact DTI in Southern Mindanao region at 224-05-11.
