SMEs to develop software for computerization program
SMALL and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) operating in the barangays could soon tap a computerization program that is being proposed in Davao City's three barangays, through a grant from the European Union.
Davao City Councilor Peter Lavina said the project focuses on development of software that could aid small businesses for better operation.
He said part of the proposed program is the development of their respective database as well as store their line clientele including their suppliers.
Lavina said he foresees a more advance business transaction once it becomes operational as entrepreneurs could also access the Internet.
With the direction of the government on business transaction through Information Communication and Technology, he said, they would like to prepare these businesses through online registration this early.
"We've observed that during the first 20 days at the beginning of the year the bulk of these business registrants are the SMEs," he said.
He said if they could renew their registration online, they could decongest the business bureau of the number of clients and attend to concerns of the new registrants.
Lavina is also set to launch the Barangay Business Club (BBC) to help barangay micro-enterprises improve their businesses.
The BBC is a component of the Barangay Enterprise Development Program where barangay residents engaged in business are qualified to join.
"As a BBC member they are entitled to a number of benefits including widening their business contacts, access to more services from government, non-government agencies and academic institutions and at the same time improve their personal and business skills," he said.
Lavina said the BBC is a counterpart of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. in terms of programs, goals and objectives.
Among the envisioned activities of the BBC are regular meetings, business development seminars, skills trainings, accessing grants and assistance, barangay trade fairs, and participation in barangay activities.
