Davao bags 5 golds
By Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan

THE Davao Region collected five gold medals in track and field as competition in the 2006 National Prisaa Games got going Monday afternoon at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Culture Center in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) varsity mainstays Janice Sinoy, Edward Pascua, and Sharra Grace Tesaluna led the charge for the 210-member Davao contingent.

Sinoy sprinted her way to the women's 100-meter dash gold while teammate Marlon Oracion also captured a similar gold in the men's event.

Pascua and Tesaluna, both medallists in the BIMP-Eaga Games, cornered the men's and women's gold in shot put in the ongoing trackfest for collegiate athletes.

Both throwers are also eyeing the golds in discuss.

The reliable Tesaluna, who lost incredible weight since her twin gold performances in the 2000 Palaro ng Bayan in Socsargen, is expected to double her feat in the Games.

The fifth gold came on the heels of Judelyn Miranda's spectacular finish in women's 1,500-meter run.

Philip Ocon will be another potential gold winner for Davao.

Ocon's expertise in middle distance running was best showcased in his double gold performances in the national open juniors trackfest and Palarong Pambansa.

Other gold hopefuls are BIMP Eaga Games champion Darelle Joie Sullano, Ricky Cordero, Arnold Perez, Regie Bayo, Alvin Sahagun, Raul Lamprea and Sheny Labrado.

The Davao Region is out to defend its over-all title in track and field that it won in Zamboanga City Prisaa finals last year.
