Darchinyan on Gabi: 'I will knock him out'

INTERNATIONAL Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan has vowed to knock out Filipino challenger Diosdado "Prince" Gabi when they square off in a 12-round championship battle on March 3 at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California.

"I know he has never been stopped. He would this time. I will stop him," Darchinyan was quoted in a report posted at the SecondsOut.com and written by Paul Upham.

"I want everyone to see how I will stop him. I will be able to show how powerful I am," Darchinyan added.

Darchinyan, called the "Raging Bull," said he does not know too much about Gabi, adding that "maybe he is a little shorter than me."

Bold talk, but there's no surprise why Darchiyan is oozing with confidence.

After all, he has the better record entering the fight at 24-0 with 19 KOs.

Gabi, who hails from Barangay Lasang, Davao City, will have his world title fight debut and is considered an underdog against the Armenian-born Australian citizen.

But Gabi himself is aching to beat Darchinyan and realize his dream of becoming world champion.

A disciple of famed American trainer Freddie Roach, the 26-year-old Gabi holds an equally impressive record of 26-2-1 with 18 KOs.

The Filipino fighter is riding on a 13-match win streak, with eight of those victories coming by way of knockouts.

Meanwhile, Gabi and Roach are scheduled to hold a media workout at the Wild Card Gym on February 22.
