N. Cotabato booters in national finals
SOUTH Central Mindanao champion North Cotabato, being a newcomer in the field, will have its hands full as the six-day 2006 PFF National Men's Seniors Championship opened Tuesday afternoon in Iloilo City.
North Cotabato barged into the national finals with a 4-1 upset over defending champion Davao Football Association (DFA) in their titular clash at the Tionko field last month.
Reigning champion National Capital Region Football Association (NCRFA) and 2005 runner-up, Negros Occidental Football Association (Nofa), are seeded first and second, respectively.
But Philippine Football Federation (PFF) officials listed North Cotabato and the Iloilo Football Association (IFA) as surprise favorites.
North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Piñol's boys are highly motivated, according to observers, with all-out support from their local government.
M'lang Vice-Mayor Joselito Piñold is head of delegation.
Other teams competing are West Mindanao qualifier Zamboanga Football Association and Baguio City-Benguet Football Association. (MLSA)
