The beautiful side By Rene Lizada Papa's Table
"Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it." - Confucius
HERE is a bit of news. In a few weeks, my wife Chona will be having her own column. But it will not be in this paper. That would be too much, after all Migoy also writes for this paper too. But just wait for it.
When she told me that she was invited to do a column, I was happy for her because unknown to many, my wife writes well. But you should not compare her with me because first of all, the comparison has no basis. And besides, my wife writes differently as you soon will find out. But I urge you to read her because for the past years, I have been writing a lot about her and maybe this would be a good time for you to see the other side.
I am quite excited about her writing again. Some of you may not know it, but some years back she had a column also. And the things that she writes about are practically the same as what I write but she writes them in a totally different light. And that is what is so amazing about my wife and me. We live in the same house, share the same experiences, and just do the same things and yet when it comes to points of view, my wife and I are radically different. At least in some cases.
I am happy that she will write again because I want you to know her. I want you meet my wife through her writing. You will see what kind of person she is and how she views life. My wife and I are so different and so alike.
My wife rarely cries. I cry even over the most shallow of things. She has gotten used to her teary-eyed husband already. She does not like Chinese food. I do. She likes to watch Filipino movies. I do not. In fact, this week we are going to watch Close To You and the bad part of that is I have to pay for both of us! And the snacks also!
My wife is a fighter while I just let things go their way. But at least now, I have learned to fight back in things that matter and I have to thank her for that. My wife does not talk much but do not be deceived by her silence. She will just look at you and just smile and say a few words. My wife is a fighter. And she will not back down on you especially if what she thinks she is doing is right. And this is proven in the way she protects her family. Her children, husband included. She is like power unleashed but it is gentle power.
My wife cooks a mean puttanesca. We had it last Sunday and because there was sauce left, I had it last Monday too. And if it is still edible I will be having it for the next week. The only thing fresh will be the bread. My wife does not cook but when she does, it is worth it. I guess that is true for a lot of things about her. You will not hear her say so much but when she does, be careful. You better eat the puttanesca.
My wife likes to listen to the Sixties and because of that, my Ipod library is full of songs from the Sixties. She is the youngest in her family and she practically grew up with her brothers, who were children of the Sixties, thus her taste for that generation. Sometimes when I look at our list of songs, I really find it amusing to have the Brandenburg Concertos side by side with Tambourine Man. But the good news is that I am starting to listen to the Sixties while she refuses to listen to classical music. But the better news is my wife likes to watch Steven Seagal movies today. My influence has finally rubbed off.
There are so many stories my wife and I share. So many experiences we have been through. But do not take my word for it. Follow her column and get to know her. I am sure you will like her. I am quite excited on what she will be writing about. Some year's back she told me "Rene you know me. There is no more of me that you do not know. I am a simple woman and this is all I am." She is wrong. My wife and I have been married for 20 years now and I am still getting to know her. Day by day.
