Mayor eyes Paquibato for rubber plantations
DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte eyes Paquibato district as a good site for rubber plantations.
Duterte urges members of the New People's Army to "come into their senses" and stop their armed conflicts with government troops in Paquibato to attract investors.
Duterte on Wednesday admitted that the present peace and order situation in Paquibato keeps investors away from the area.
He cited the case of North Cotabato that was once affected by the armed conflict.
Duterte added that the growing rubber industry in North Cotabato contributed to the tremendous improvement of its economy.
From being one of the five poorest provinces in the country in 1998, North Cotabato is now a favorite investment area for big agribusiness companies in Central Mindanao.
The province is also the region's leader in jobs generation with almost 70,000 jobs created through the influx of investments in the past three years.
Since last year, North Cotabato has focused on four priority crops - hybrid coconut, cardava banana, oil palm and rubber -- in its agricultural development program. (BOT)
