Mayor plans to visit So. Leyte soon

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte disclosed Wednesday his plan to visit Southern Leyte anytime soon.

The city sent off nine dump trucks fully loaded with P1 million worth of foodstuff and clothing for the victims of landslide that hit Barangay Guinsaugon in St. Bernard town, Southern Leyte.

"Leyte Mudslide". Post your comments on the incident here.

Duterte initially planned to send a rescue team to the area but backed out of the plan after Leyte officials informed him that all of Leytenos are participating in the rescue effort.

He expects the rescue and retrieval operations to take some time especially that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo wanted the retrieval of all the estimated 1,500 victims.

Aside from the planned Leyte visit, Duterte went to several areas in the region affected by landslide like in Carmen, Baguio District.

He is also planning to visit Tarragona, Davao Oriental to check on the more than 1,000 people affected by the impending landslide in the area. (BOT)
