24-hour cycling challenge set
THE second leg of the 24-hour Out in the Boondocks-MTB Challenge will get get going on March 11 and 12 at the Crocodile Park, Riverfront, in Maa.
Ed Leuenberger of the Boondocks Bikes and Lapiere Cycles said the competition is part of the 1st Davao Great Outdoor Week.
"We are expecting some 150 to 200 riders from 20 teams seeing action in the challenge with guest teams coming from Cagayan de Oro and Iligan," he told members of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) during their weekly sports forum at the Tower Inn Thursday.
He said categories entered are the open four-man open class, four-man sport class and the corporate A (21 to 44 years old) and B (45-above) classes that will compose six to 10 members.
He said the race is not only a challenge of stamina, strength and endurance but also of team tactics, logistics and support crew.
Leuenberger added, "The team with the most efficient number of laps will win. This is a relay event."
Cash prizes of P10,000, P5,000 and P3,000 will go to the top three finishers in the open event while the first three sport entries will get P5,000, P3,000 and P1,000.
"Only the finishing teams will get survivor shirts," he said.
