RMN-RRD race set March 12
ITS all systems go for the RMN Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte Cycling Challenge on March 12 in an out-and-back course from San Pedro St.
This was bared Thursday by Samahang Siklista Kooperatiba ng Dabaw (SSikad) chair Salvador Paholio Jr. during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn.
He said, "It will be a 150-kilometer race from San Pedro going to Claveria and Anda streets heading towards the National Highway then off Sta. Cruz, Padada and Malalag in Davao del Sur. The finish line will still be at San Pedro."
He said the bikefest, organized in celebration of the Araw ng Dabaw celebration, is more set up this year than last year.
"We already got a mayor's permit for the race with assistance from police haggard to ensure the smooth flow of the competition," the SSikad chief said.
The race stakes cash prizes and trophies to the winners of the open elite, masters 40-above and beginners divisions.
But Paholio said, "The cash prizes, however, will still depend on the turnout of sponsorships. Negotiations are still ongoing."
He said they are also working things out to waive any registration fee, adding, "Should we have an entry fee, it will just be very minimal. It would be less P100."
Local riders are expected to dominate the event. (MLSA)
