Solar to air title fight
FILIPINO fans, especially the people of Davao City, will get the chance to see the title fight between Diosdado "Prince" Gabi and International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight title on March 3 at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California.
Michael Koncz, Gabi's manager, relayed the information to Sun.Star Davao in an e-mail Friday.
"I want to let you know that yesterday I reached an agreement with Solar Entertainment and Solar Sports and they will do a live satellite feed broadcast of Gabi's fight. Here in the US, the card takes place on Friday, March 3, 2006, with the first televised bout at 8 p.m. so I believe it will be 12 noon on Saturday when the telecast starts there in the Philippines," Koncz said.
Gabi, who hails from Barangay Lasang, Davao City, will be facing a tough opponent in the hard-punching Darchinyan, but is determined to pursue his dream of becoming a world champion.
Gabi and Darchinyan, who are both southpaws, will clash in the main event of Shobox: The New Generation card.
Darchiyan will be entering the fight carrying a record of 24-0 with 19 KOs, while Gabi has 26-2-1 with 18 KOs slate.
"I feel I have good boxing ability and that is what I plan to (do) against Darchinyan. To stand and exchange would be a mistake. That's what he wants. I am not a runner, but I am faster than he is. I plan to use my speed to give him angles. I want to be elusive and make him work to catch up to me," Gabi said. (CRAM)
