Tenpin bowling rolls off By Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan
THE likes of husband and wife Nonoy and Cheche Calida of Davao City are among the top players seeing action when the 1st Araw ng Dabaw Classic Tenpin Open rolls off at 6 p.m. Friday at NCCC Mall's B3 Center.
Tournament director Yule Tanlimco, who guested with Billy Magdale at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn Thursday, said: "Dabawenyos like the Calidas will have a strong chance of winning in the tournament considering the home court advantage."
Tanlimco said local players have been regulars at the B3 Center for the past months practicing for the three-day bowlfest in celebration of the 69th foundation day of Davao City.
He, however, said visiting players pose a threat to the locals.
Magdale said participants from Manila, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos and other parts of Mindanao will also try their luck in the competition that offers P15,000 for the champion.
"The runner up will receive P10,000 while P5,000 will go to the third placer," Magdale added.
Close to 50 participants, who will have to play a total of 12 games, will battle for the crown.
Six games will be played in each day from Friday to Saturday. The top five players in the elimination round will play the up-the-ladder championship on Sunday.
