International jobs fair set in Davao

THE first BIMP-Eaga (Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area) tourism job fair will be held in Davao City on April 4 to 6 at NCCC Mall Convention and Exhibition Center.

Mary Ann Montemayor, chair of the BIMP-Eaga Tourism Committee, said the event is part of the 1st Nationwide Tourism Job Fair, which would also be held in the cities of Manila and Cebu.

But Montemayor said it is only in Davao City where the job fair would have an international flavor.

"Employers coming from the BIMP-Eaga would be participating, so this is not just local employment," said Montemayor.

She said the job fair would have around 200 employers coming from the tourism industry and also tourism-support firms.

The fair would also showcase an online feature where employers and prospective applicants are requested to register on the job fair website.

The objective of the online registration is for the companies to have an access to a database for further employment needs.

"What is unique with the online job fair is that the employment opportunities don’t end with the conclusion of the job fair," Montemayor added.

Participants are invited to register at the website of the tourism job fair at www.tourismjobs.ph.

Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Francis Domingo said they would participate in the job fair, where they would have a booth to assist the international employers and also the applicants.

"The participation of POEA is only on the Davao fair since it is only here where there are international employers," Domingo said.

The tourism job fair is part of Department of Tourism program to tap the booming tourism industry for its employment opportunities.

The program is a part of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's 10-point Agenda of bringing a million jobs to the people.
