Regional coop bank mulled
AN OFFICIAL of the Cooperative Development Council (RCDC) in Davao Region said they are planning to put up a region-wide cooperative bank in the city.
RCDC vice chair Belen Laud said the plan is one of the thrusts of the agency for the year.
She said a feasibility study for such purpose has already been conducted. "We are inviting all coops to invest in the bank," Laud said during Friday's Kapihan sa PIA.
Laud also encouraged professionals such as certified public accountants to join the planned cooperative bank.
"Hopefully professionals would join the coop. They will help in managing the banks for it to be successful," Laud said.
She said there was a cooperative bank, which was put up several years in the city but had to close due to pressing financial reasons.
Laud, however, said there is a surviving cooperative bank in Digos, Davao del Sur.
If the plan of creating another cooperative bank will materialize, Laud said, the existing bank would serve as the mother bank.
The mother bank would then be named as the Cooperative Bank of the Philippines, she said.
She added that the assets of the closed bank might also be transferred to the new cooperative bank. (BRQ)
