'Batasan 5' to undergo preliminary probe Monday
By Ben O. Tesiorna

THE "Batasan 5", consisting of party-list congressmen facing rebellion charges, is set to undergo preliminary investigation Monday to be conducted by the Department of Justice inside the Batasang Pambansa.

Bayan Muna Representative Joel Virador said they are still confined within the Batasan Pambansa complex and waiting for any developments on the charges filed against them by the government.

What’s your opinion on Arroyo’s emergency rule? Post comment.

Unconfirmed reports revealed that there are growing sentiments among members of the House urging the five congressmen to "face the music" rather than hide under the "cloak of immunity" afforded them by Congress.

But Virador denied such report saying many of their colleagues express sympathy and even offered help in whatever form.

"In fact many reacted why Speaker de Venecia is accounting the cost for our food when it is not his personal budget that is spent but the budget of the House of Representatives. Many are also offering their offices in case we no longer want to sleep in the conference room of Speaker de Venecia," he said.

A member of the House, who requested anonymity, said their colleagues should be brave enough to face the charges filed against them, as they were brave enough to accuse the Arroyo administration of anomalies.

Aside from Virador, lawmakers Satur Ocampo, Liza Maza, Rafael Mariano, and Teodoro Casino are also seeking protective custody of the House.
